DATUM’s linear form is extremely challenging to produce. The strict geometry of each individual piece requires several stages. Translating the design is a feat of craftsmanship, expertise and precision.

The DATUM porcelain collection fuses groundbreaking product design with passionate craftsmanship. It combines the best of both worlds, a collaboration between the industrial designers at Foster + Partners and the experts at Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG, who have brought specialist expertise in their respective disciplines to the product.

A sophisticated highlight of the DATUM collection is the porcelain French press coffee pot. The celebrated French press requires the coffee filter to be pushed downwards in a straight line while remaining flush on all edges. Developing a porcelain cylinder with completely straight inner sides represented one of the major challenges for the porcelain manufacturer’s modellers.

The ‘To Go’ double-walled take-away mug, made entirely from porcelain, is the first of its kind from FÜRSTENBERG and underscores the new demand for great taste on the go. The two-and-a-half millimetre-thick body is astonishingly light. By virtue of the double-walled design, drinks retain their temperature for longer.
